Device description
Dual-function central heating (CH) or domestic hot water (DHW) pump controller
Application as a central heating pump controller
AURATON Hydrus can be used to automatically turn a circulation pump on and off depending on temperature. The controller-pump assembly forces water circulation in central heating systems. The AURATON Hydrus sensor measures the temperature of the water in the central heating system's supply. In solid fuel central heating systems, AURATON Hydrus will turn off the circulation pump once the boiler flame has extinguished.
Pumping water with the flame extinguished is not recommended - the air draft into the chimney causes the water in the boiler to cool faster than in the radiators.
The optimal temperature can be set on the AURATON Hydrus display (usually 40°C).
In a central heating system with a gas boiler, the temperature set on the AURATON Hydrus must be lower than the temperature set on the central heating boiler. Setting the AURATON Hydrus to a temperature above the dew point prevents the boiler from sweating while heating the water in the central heating system.
The setting range for the central heating pump is from 20°C to 90°C.
The hysteresis (the difference between the switch-on and switch-off temperatures) can be set between 2 and 8 °C.
Application as a DHW pump controller
AURATON Hydrus can also be used to automatically turn the circulation pump on and off depending on the temperature.
In domestic hot water (DHW) systems, the controller-pump assembly forces water circulation in DHW systems with a heating device without a pump control system. The AURATON Hydrus sensor measures the water temperature in the DHW tank.
The setting range for the DHW pump is from 20°C to 90°C.
The hysteresis (the difference between the switch-on and switch-off temperatures) can be set between 2 and 8 °C.
Installation
Sensor mounting:
Operation in CO mode
- Install the sensor on the exposed outlet pipe from the central heating boiler (as close to the boiler as possible).
- Press the sensor against the pipe with a clamp.
- It is advisable to wrap the outlet pipe from the boiler to the sensor with insulating material.
- If solid fuel and gas heating devices operate on a common central heating system, the sensor should be mounted at the point where both outputs connect and insulated.
Operation in DHW mode

– ) and ( + buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds. After this time, the display will show a flashing © or , . While this information is displayed, you can use the ( – ) or ( + ) buttons to change the set mode.
The change will be automatically saved.
Hysteresis setting
– ) and ( + simultaneously for 5 seconds.
After 5 seconds, the display will show the flashing AURATON Hydrus operating mode ( © or , H4 ) will be visible for another 5 seconds
While this information is displayed, you can use the ( – ) or ( + ) buttons to change the value. The controller allows you to set the hysteresis within a range of 2° to 8°C ( H2 to H8 ). Once you make a change, it will be automatically saved.
Example:
When setting e.g. H4 in © and an example temperature of 40°C, the pump will turn on when the temperature exceeds 42°C and will turn off when it drops to 38°C. However, with H4 , mode and an example temperature of 40°C, the pump will turn off when it exceeds 42°C and will turn on when it drops to 38°C.
Disabling the pump alarm
software version from 1.2In specific situations, it is possible to disable the E1 pump disconnected or faulty alarm. This may be necessary when connecting a low-power pump or an electronically controlled pump.
To do this, enter the AURATON Hydrus menu:
Change the settings by simultaneously holding both buttons ( – ) and ( + ) for 15 seconds.
After 5 seconds, the display will show the flashing AURATON Hydrus operating mode ( © or , ), and then the set hysteresis value (e.g. H4 ) will be visible for another 5 seconds.
The next setting concerns turning off the E1 , the display will show a flashing A1 (factory setting), which means the alarm is on.
While this information is displayed, the ( – ) or ( + ) buttons can be used to change this value to A0, which means that the pump alarm ( E1 ) is disabled.
Manually turning on and off the central heating or domestic hot water pump
AURATON Hydrus allows you to manually turn on and off the central heating or domestic hot water pump
